May 2017

In May 2017, Lapwing Poultry was lucky enough to be featured in Backyard Poultry Magazine with an article on the 'silked Pekins' breeding program. So far it has attracted a lot of interest, and hopefully this continues to develop as I continue with my breeding program and when I exhibit my birds in the come 2018 show season.

July 2015

Lapwing Poultry made its first foray into Pekin showing in 2015. We attended the Victorian Pekin show and the Royal Melbourne Poultry Show in July.

The Victorian Pekin show was held at the Melbourne Showgrounds on the first weekend in July. It was a great show with 140 Pekins entered. Arqy's Poultry presented 4 red Pekin bantams and were lucky enough to take home;
- Champion minor variety in show (red hen)
- Champion AORC in show (red hen)

- First AORC Cock bird (red)
- First AORC Hen (red)
- Second AORC Hen (red)
- Third AORC Pullet (red)

The Royal Melbourne Poultry show was held over the very wet second weekend in July. With 50-70 Pekins entered it was much smaller than the Victorian Pekin show, however as an all-breeds it was fun to see the huge variety on display. Lapwing Poultry had 6 Pekins entered and were lucky enough to take home;

- Champion Red Pekin bantam in show.
- Reserve Red Pekin bantam in show.
- Champion AORC Pekin bantam in show.
- Reserve AORC Pekin bantam in show.
- First Red Cock bird.
- Second Red Cock bird.
- First Red Hen
- Second Red Hen
- First AORC Pullet (red).
- Second AORC pullet (red).

June 2015

I am an admin on a Pekin group called Pretty Pekins on Facebook which I love doing, but I get asked a lot of the same questions. One of the members (who is lovely) suggested that I write a sort of 'beginners guide' to keeping Pekin bantams since they do require a certain amount of effort to keep happy and healthy. So here it is!
The book covers a range of different topics including;

- Housing.
- Feeding and nutrition.
- Coccidiosis.
- Introducing new birds.
- Parasite control.
- Incubation basics and brooding.
- Sexing your Pekin chick.
- Basic genetics.
- A breeding schedule.
and more...

It is 46 fully colour pages with all the photos taken by me as well!

If you are interested in purchasing a copy please send me an email!
Soft cover is priced at $30 including Australia wide posting.
Hard cover is $45 including Australia wide posting.
